Specialized Support for Adolescents
The teenage years bring unique challenges—identity formation, peer pressure, academic stress, and emotional changes. I provide compassionate, teen-friendly therapy that helps adolescents develop coping skills, build self-esteem, and navigate this critical time.
Understanding Teen Mental Health
Adolescence is a time of tremendous change—physically, emotionally, and socially. It's normal for teens to experience mood swings, question their identity, and push boundaries. But sometimes, teens need extra support navigating these challenges.
Teens often struggle to articulate what they're feeling, which can come out as withdrawal, irritability, or acting out. Therapy provides a confidential space where they can explore their emotions and develop healthier ways of coping.
With over five years of experience working with adolescents, I understand how to connect with teens in a way that feels authentic rather than preachy. Building trust is essential, and I let teens set the pace.
Common Teen Concerns I Address
My Approach to Teen Therapy
Meeting teens where they are with compassion, understanding, and practical tools
Building Trust & Rapport
Creating a safe, judgment-free space where teens feel comfortable opening up at their own pace.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Teaching practical skills to manage difficult thoughts and emotions in teen-friendly ways.
Client-Centered Therapy
A supportive, non-judgmental approach where teens lead the conversation and explore their feelings at their own pace.
Family Involvement
When appropriate, involving parents to improve communication and support at home.
For Parents
Watching your teen struggle is painful. You want to help, but they may push you away or refuse to talk. Teen therapy can bridge that gap and give your child tools to cope.
While therapy sessions are confidential (which builds trust with your teen), I involve parents appropriately and provide guidance on how to support your teen at home.
Signs your teen might benefit from therapy:
- Significant changes in mood, behavior, or grades
- Withdrawal from friends or activities they enjoyed
- Increased conflict at home
- Expressing hopelessness or low self-worth
For Teens
Therapy isn't about someone telling you what to do or judging your choices. It's a space where you can talk about what's really going on without fear of getting in trouble or disappointing anyone.
I work with a lot of teens who felt unsure about therapy at first. Most find it helpful to have someone who listens without lecturing and helps them figure out their own solutions.
What we talk about stays between us (with some important safety exceptions). You get to decide how much to share and when.
In therapy, you can:
- Vent without being judged
- Learn skills to manage stress and anxiety
- Figure out who you are and what you want
- Improve relationships with family and friends
